Why Would You Need to See a Urologist

By Complete Care Specialist April 12, 2021

When was the last time that you considered visiting a urologist? For many people, the answer is "never".

Even when people have complications with their bladder, they often leave the task up to their general practitioners or get too embarrassed to contact anyone at all.

If this sounds like you, you might be putting yourself at risk. Keep reading to learn a few reasons why you might want to schedule a urologist appointment today.

You Have Chronic UTIs

It's normal to have a UTI (urinary tract infection) every once in a while. If you're a woman, you have a greater chance than not of developing a UTI at least once in your life.

When they're mild, this isn't a big deal, and you can fight them off on your own. When you have chronic or prolonged UTIs, though, it's time to seek a urologist.

You Can't Control Your Bladder

This is an issue that's difficult to ignore.

There are several reasons that you could suffer from urinary incontinence. Some people deal with this after they give birth. Others, after injuries. If poor bladder control or a constant feeling that you need to urinate are problems for you, get a urology exam.

There's Blood in Your Urine

Blood in your urine is frightening, and for good reason. While it might be the result of a minor injury, it could also be a sign that there's something wrong with your kidneys or prostate.

Blood in the urine can be red, pink, brown, or tea-colored. If you notice it, make an immediate call to get scheduled with a urologist.

It Hurts to Urinate

Painful urination is often the result of UTIs and yeast infections, so many people let it go on for too long before realizing that it's a significant problem.

If you have prolonged painful urination, you could be suffering from a sexually-transmitted disease, prostate inflammation, a vaginal infection, or bladder stones.

Your urologist will conduct an exam to identify the problem and ease your pain.

Unusual Abdominal Pain

While some abdominal pain is normal, like the occasional cramp or gastrointestinal problem, if you're experiencing pain in unusual places or the pain is sharper than normal, it's time to see a urologist.

This pain can be the result of kidney stones, and these stones often get worse when you don't treat them.

When you have kidney stones, the pain will be intense regardless of your position. You may experience nausea and vomiting, as well as a fever.

If you're prone to kidney stones, seeing a urologist for regular checkups is the best idea. When left unchecked, they can lead to long-term kidney damage and problems during childbirth.

Have You Seen Your Urologist Lately?

We can't overstate the importance of seeing a urologist. You don't need to be embarrassed about your abdominal health. Taking care of it is a key part of healthy living.

When you experience any of these symptoms, or even if you're concerned because you haven't seen a urologist in the past, it's the perfect time to schedule an exam.
